A lazy weekend

It's been a lazy yet productive weekend around here. Feels like the first weekend in over a month I've had a chance to relax and didn't have to drive anywhere (well except knitting tonight). So here's a abridged story of my weekend:

Reading and enjoying the weather. I've got tons of reading for my classes so I'll be reading a lot this semester but luckly the subjects are all quite interesting. It's been really nice outside too, I get good shade from the tree outside my window and an extra chair for my drink and books.

Brewing sun tea is a must!!! My mom gave me some tea bags specifically for iced tea, one bag makes a whole pitcher! And don't forget the lemon slice!

My friend and knitwear designer Beth Wolden is responsible for my new knit, a pair of sheep mittens! It's extra fun cause we're doing it as a knitting group. Sadly my gauge is way off when I do stranding so I'll have to pick up smaller needles soon, and all this has to be ripped out *tear*

And while discussing an idea this morning with some friends I made a few hairclips for the shop. They're made from a jacket I took apart with my brother recently for his costume for comic con. One has the zipper attached in the middle and the other has a bright button, I think they're sweet :D
Now I'm off to finish my reading for monday and knit group later, hope your weekend is equally relaxing.

Children Need Art

A few weeks back while visiting my parents I took a few snapshots of my paintings around the house from when I was a child. My mom is a painter so our house has always been full of original work, either by her people she knows or my brother and I. I can remember every birthday my mom would plan out some type of art project for me and my friends to do. She also wrote an art program for my school and I can remember her coming and teaching my class about art once a month.
All these things mean that I was completely immersed in art as a child, I learned from a young age that it's an important way to express yourself and feel good. I have struggled with whether or not I'm an artist for as long as I can remember. I'm finally starting to see that maybe I am.

This one is of the cat I had as a child, although I never remember her being quite this cute!

I love this one, always have! My mom was testing an idea for her volunteer art program so we went and cut our own reeds and ground up charcoal. We tested a bunch of things and tried to make it as realistic to how Ancient Egyptians worked as possible. I always LOVED Ancient Egypt and am actually taking a class on it this semseter!

This was when we tried out printmaking, which actually worked in my favor this summer when I took printmaking. I already understood woodblock printing:

In another life I'd do art-ed because every child deserves to learn about art! I can't even imagine where I'd be if I hadn't, it's determined my entire life!

Anyone else have some good childhood stories about art? I LOVE hearing about people being exposed to art when they were young.

I'm ALIVE!!!

Hello all, summer is over, full day of classes yesterday. It's back to reality and that means more regular postings, yay! I'm working on a major etsy update but I thought I'd share my current WIP besides the Time Lord socks:

Vampire Boyfriend Socks via knitty.com
They've been a ton of fun and really challenging. They're part of a True Blood knit along on ravelry but I'm not sure I'll make the deadline of the end of the season. Ah well, they're pretty anyways!

on being alone...

I really enjoy alone time, it's when you really get things done, get in the groove and make something happen.

Project idea

Hello all! I've been spending a lot of time away from my computer lately, enjoying summer and such. But I thought I'd share this ingenious idea I found on craftster.

Fashion tights like the ones above from modcloth are a lot of fun but they're so expensive. Instead use this easy tute and your own ideas to make one of a kind tights. I'm definatly going to try this out some day soon!
