Friday Inspirations

Heading home today to celebrate my brother's birthday soon but I really wanted to start my Friday inspirations posts this week. Today I thought I'd browse through and pick some of my favorite recent wardrobe remixes. I browse the entries pretty often because secretly I'd love to be a part of it. I'm working on building up a great thrifted wardrobe but until then I'll just lust after others amazing outfits.

One place I like to roam for random inspiration is craftster.org You find people posting some really original crafts and it's wonderful for getting the creative juices flowing. A while ago I found this project where a girl made these awesome patchwork skinny jeans. For whatever reason they stayed in my mind for months and I just rediscovered the tutorial for them on Ready Made

I don't have a ton of free time for a while but when I do find it I'd really like to transform some thrift store jeans along with the millions of denim and canvas scraps I have laying around into some similar jeans, perhaps using some of my coveted galaxy fabric? Inspired by these things of beauty.

A Ravelympics turning point

Hooray!!! Here's to finishing my FLS!!! This is record timing for me and I now feel as if I could conquer the world. I'm qualifying it as finished despite the fact I have yet to block it, weave in ends, or add buttons. That being said I have one measly pre-finishing photo. Taken last night it's far from my best photograph. Nonetheless it's proof of my feat!


Better photos up this weekend, seeing as I'll be home to pick up my specially ordered knitpick harmony buttons.


Next up we have my current Ravelympics project, Wilf's hat from Doctor Who. I've always loved Wilf, he's the perfect grandpa in my opinion, alot like my own grandfather in a way. I've had an iching to make this and was even going to design my own pattern until a lovely raveler posted their own. I'm knitting this on dpns because it's the closest thing I had when casting on. I'm using some recycled yarn from a sweater I destroyed over Christmas break. It's absolutely perfect and is working up perfectly, my 4 inches of 1x1 rib so far looks fantastic!

I was hesitant to cast it on but figured I'm going for the gold! This will be my main project to finish off the ravelympics, although I plan to finish off that WIP blanket on size 50s (yes, you heard me right!).

For a long time I've been using livejournal for blogging. In some ways it's convenient and accessible yet in other ways it's childish and informal. I find myself writing about things I don't necessarily wish the world to know, things that really deserve a place in my own private journal. I look through my friends list and see complaint upon complaint and really, that's not the legacy I wish to leave on the world. I much rather record and blog the positive things in my life, the creative things. I love looking at crafty blogs full of photos and inspiration and have tried in the past to create my own but have always specified my blog as a "fandom craft" blog. I love my fandoms and I really enjoy knitting and crafting things inspired by my fandoms. Yet I've been thinking lately, mostly during this past week and the ravelympics that I really don't want to segregate myself like that. I'd actually like to stray from the pointless fandom crafts and create beautiful items I'll use in everyday life, not that I don't do this now but this aspect is sadly lacking. I'd like to expand my horizons and become a notable crafter in my own right, not just because I enjoy crafting nerdy sci-fi things.

Also, more than just crafts I'd like to discuss interesting things I'm learning at the time, since I'm still in school as well as my exercise routine...or attempts.

Now that I've introduced myself it's just a matter of starting. I'm about 3 inches of my last sleeve away from finishing my February Lady Sweater, which I started soon after the olympics began, this is record timing for me, quite a challenge! Pictures and a more organized/personalized blog coming soon!

Yes, I am in fact alive and no I have not abandoned you blog (and my few readers) I've just been super busy with school, making things, and thrifting! I've got a pile of FOs that need ends woven in and some blocking and then they just need to be phographed. Hopefully that'll be done in a few days. School has been kicking my butt lately but I refuse to let it kill my soul or my creativity, I need my creative outlets for sanity! I've also been obsessed with thrift stores lately. I've got a ton of new clothes in the past few weeks for a relatively small amount of money. I've been playing with the idea of doing a style type what I wore today journey. I've been trying to be more creative in my clothing and I think it'd be a fun push to document it.
Off to celebrate the boy's birthday! Hopefully pictures of his present as well soon, I learned glass etching for it :D

And I'm working on stuff for my etsy. It's been months since I got my new store GallifreyKeepsakes but I have yet to do anything with it. I've got a bunch of things to post and I'm working on more. Right now I'm playing with beads and making some stitchmarkers :D

Making our apartment home

So last month I moved into a new apartment. I'm in the same complex but I now have a balcony and some extra space, it's alot nicer and I'm gonna be living with my boyfriend. We were going to originally buy a couch until a family friend offered one for free. It's pretty worn but looks soooo much better since Matt cleaned it really well. I wanted to make some pillows to make it a little nicer and more personal.

The boy actually helped pick out these fabrics :)

These are fabrics are from my stash, the green is a really soft fleece. The long one doesn't look even but it is, I swear, my camera just likes to tell lies!
I also made a few coasters from some of my first attempts at crochet. I lightly felted them and then sewed on fabric leftover from the pillows!

Here's my bookshelf in the living room. I feel kinda bad it's all my books and stuff but truthfully I don't think Matt will care at all. If I had to show people one thing that described me it would prolly be this bookshelf.
Lastly I wanna show you what puts a smile on my face every morning, there's no way you can't smile while looking at this shower curtain:

Femmie!Five: The shoes

I thought I'd do a small post tonight. Tonight it's all about the shoes! Five wore a pretty basic white leather sneaker. But unless you're running around alot I find a skirt with sneakers super unflattering. A few months back I just happened to come across the perfect shoes ON SALE at Walmart! They're perfect in every way! They've got a slight heel, they've got that sneaker feel, and they've got five's trademark red binding around the edges. Truthfully? The make me squee like the little fangirl I am!!!

Femme!Five: An intro and the case of the celery

It's been a long time since I last posted anything but I really haven't had much to show. I'd been in a crafting funk for quite a while. It's okay though because I've moved into my new place and I'm working on a huge project. Well not huge but considering I plan to make the whole thing from scratch it's alot to undertake.

For months I've been wanting to cosplay the fifth doctor. He's MY doctor but also I love his crazy style. If you've never watched Doctor Who I suggest you go do that now....

He's played by Peter Davison who's an adorable cricket loving timelord. I also adore five with his companions Adric, Nyssa, and Tegan.



































But anyways on to the crafting! I really wanted to cosplay five but I also wanted to put my own twist on it. Some DW cosplayers do femanized version of their favorite male characters, this is something I just love! So I began planning my own femme!Five. Now it's been done before so it had to be something diffrent, not just five in a skirt with long hair. I began sketching months ago until I finally decided on skirt, sweater vest, puffy cap sleeve shirt, and celery in my hair instead of on the jacket. The plan is that this than go three ways: a super cutesey five without the coat, thus showing off the puffy sleeves, sexy five sans sweater showing off the suspenders, and a more typical five with jacket over everything. I'm going to a TARDIS (a Doctor Who convention in Lombard) in November for the whole weekend so I needed some options.




If you've never watched DW the fifth doctor wears celery on his lapel. No one really knows why, he's had a few excuses but personally I think he just thought it'd look good. I wasn't about to wear real celery in my hair cause ew! I knit this celery after trying out a pattern on livejournal and adapting it to my own (hopefully) more realistic version. I then hand felted it some to give it better stability and less stitch definition. I then dipped the leafy parts in kool-aid dye to make them look more lifelike. I'm pretty proud of how it turned out and will probably be selling them eventually.

I then simply attached it to a clear headband and called it a day! I thought it would look really odd but turns out it looks adorable and I'm almost gutsy enought to wear it out on a normal day!


More later, I've got the shoes and shirt to show off and I'm half way through the coat as well as slowly knitting the sweater :)

Spring equals a new favorite color:

Yellow!!!!! I know it's the hottest thing right now but I truly do love it. I've actually been rockin it for months with my yellow converse purse.

These shoes my mom got for my birthday while in Florida, they're love.

Aren't they pretty?! The American Cancer Society does this thing where they give flowers to cancer patients with a little bear. I'm the survivor chair for my Relay for Life and at our last meeting we all got some. They make me smile every time I look at them because EVERY cancer patient deserves a vase of happiness.

And this hilarious picture is from a "mathquerade" party I attended this week. I made the mask, it was alot of fun. Sadly I haven't been knitting much lately so that's about all the crafting I have to show.
